Superman May Be Super Again

After the release of Superman Returns, the Big Blue Boyscout suffered a pretty big blow to his popularity. Rumors abound of a sequel featuring a villain that Supes can actually punch, but at the moment, they are just that: Rumors.

For those that would like to see some hyper-powered superhero action before this possible sequel materializes, Warner Brothers is stepping up with a series of direct to DVD animated movies that will feature popular comics story lines.

First up is Superman/Doomsday which will cover the death, funeral and return of Superman. Carrying a pg-13 rating, this movie will not shy away from the violence that is necessary to carry this story.

View the trailer, then scroll down for awesome casting news.

The choice of actor to voice Superman is an odd one, but I don't think it will go unappreciated. Superman will be voiced by (feel free to add a drum roll in your head) Adam Baldwin! That's right! Firefly's Jayne!

Awesome!

Three Really Bad Modern Games That Aren't Based On Movies

It's no secret to the average video game player that movie based games suck. On most "Worst Games" lists around the internet, movie games represents most of the games listed. What about those bad games that have nothing to do with movies at all? Here is the official Atlas Shirked list of three really bad modern games that aren't movie related.

3. Bullet Witch (X360, published by Atari)- Bullet Witch puts you into the role of Alicia, a witch tasked with saving the world from demons and zombies. As a witch, you have access to a magical staff that shoots bullets and fantastic magical spells that do next to nothing.

My time with Bullet Witch was limited to about two hours before I cut the power on my 360. There is only so much terrible voice acting and sloooooooow action one man can take.

Bullet Witch is recommended for people who don't like to think or enjoy molasses swimming simulations.

2. F.E.A.R. (PC/X360, published by Vivendi, under license from Monolith)- F.E.A.R. is all about...well...fear, and making the player fell that fear. The only thing that is really frightening about F.E.A.R. is the fact that people seem to enjoy it.

In F.E.A.R., you play an operative of First Encounter Assault Recon, a government sponsored group that investigates ghosts and demons and then, apparently, shoots them. You, as this highly trained special forces operative, move through confusingly large levels at a slow jog and turn like someone who is trapped in a giant bowl of pudding.

As I've already mentioned, level design is confusing at times. Character design also suffers, as there appear to be only two types of enemies.

Despite its flaws, F.E.A.R. is full of genuinely frightening moments. One that sticks out is a scene where you are moving down an empty hallway only to suddenly find yourself waist deep in a massive pool of blood (or Mexican food induced feces, I can't be sure.)

Though it pains me to actually say it, the only thing to fear is F.E.A.R. itself.

1. Gears Of War(X360, published by Microsoft, designed by Epic)- I can hear the fanboys crying out in anger now. "But Krunchie," they say, "Gears of War is a wildly successful game that everyone loves!"

People do seem to love Gears of War, but people also flocked to see movies like Little Man. Popularity is not a reflection of quality. I defy you to point out something original in Gears of War. Gears is nothing more than a very pretty shooter.

Favorite Marvel Character Poll

Is your favorite Marvel Character not in the poll? Drop a comment to tell us who we left out. (For the unobservant, the poll is on the sidebar to the right.)

Gaming Horizon: Two Worlds

The Xbox 360 is not a system that is known for its rpg's, but that is about to change with the impending release of Topware and SouthPeak Games' Two Worlds.

Two Worlds takes the tried and true Elder Scrolls formula of allowing the player complete freedom to play in any style and mixes it up by making to player's decisions actually matter to the world. Many games, like the Knights of the Old Republic series, have allowed you the latitude to be good or evil, but your decisions have never had a major effect on the game. It looks as though that is about to change.

The basic story in Two Worlds is classic. Someone (something?) has kidnapped your sister, and you must rescue her. The actions you take to free her are up to you. Will you be a knight in shining armor, and help those that you meet along your path, or will you let your rage take over and show the big baddie the true meaning of evil? It's your choice, but don't expect every moral decision to be black or white.

Check out some screen shots here.

Because it is sharing a release date with Madden '08 (or Bioshock, depending on which date you believe) Two Worlds isn't receiving much press or hype. If it is as good as it appears to be, though, we could be looking at the sleeper hit of the summer. We'll find out on August 14 (or Aug 21.)

Something Different

I've grown weary of my format. From this point, my posts should be less sporadic and less random. I'm changing my focus to gaming, comics, and movie news with the occasional Transformers and David Bowie things mixed in.

Harry Potter Follow-up

I was wrong on all counts. I managed to get one of the names right, but completely missed the circumstances. I enjoyed the book, though, and that's what counts, right?

Harry Potter Predictions (possible, but unlikely, spoilers)

The final book in the harry potter series is upon us, and there are still many questions as to the fates of some of the characters. J.K. Rowling has stated that two major characters are marked for death in this final book. Here is my short list of possibilities, and the circumstances involved. I'm assuming that Voldemort is not included in the two, as he is almost certainly going to die.

Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy: Malfoy will slay Ron, causing Harry to fly into a rage and cast the killing curse on Malfoy.

Ginny Weasley and Snape: Same circumstances as above.

Hermione and Ron: What better way to show Harry that his circumstances are dire than to kill off his two best friends?

Hagrid: Dies defending Harry.

Arthur and Molly Weasley: Break Harry down by killing his adopted parents.

Neville Longbottom: A long shot, but he could perish in a Deatheater attack.

The Entire Wizarding World: Britain's Prime Minister grows weary of all of the magic crap and launches a full nuclear assault on Hogwarts and the surrounding areas.

That's all I have. Next week, we'll see if I was correct.
